Stephen Bliss
Founder & Principal
I founded BlissWorks to help people create places that truly reflect the way they want to live. My work begins by listening—understanding each client's goals, lifestyle, and the character of their land before a single line is drawn. From custom homes to productive homesteads and thoughtfully planned communities, every project is shaped by its place, its people, and a belief that good design should enrich everyday life for generations.
Biography
I founded BlissWorks with a simple belief: the best places are designed around people, not trends. For more than three decades, I've worked throughout the United States, Central America, and Mexico designing homes, developing land, and planning communities. Along the way I've learned that meaningful design begins long before architecture. It starts by understanding how people want to live, what they value, and how the land itself can support that vision. My work brings together architecture, land planning, and an understanding of productive landscapes to create places that are both beautiful and practical. Whether designing a custom home nestled into a hillside, planning a family homestead, or helping shape a resilient community, I approach every project as part of a larger living system where home, land, food production, water, and stewardship work together. I don't believe in imposing a signature style. Every piece of land is different, every client has a unique story, and every project deserves its own thoughtful response. My role is to listen carefully, ask the right questions, and translate aspirations into places that feel natural, enduring, and deeply personal. Today I work independently, collaborating directly with each client from the earliest conversations through the design process. My goal is not simply to create buildings, but to help create places that support meaningful lives, strengthen our connection to the land, and remain relevant for generations to come.
